    Capitol Building
The Capitol building is the most important building in Washington, D.C.  It is where the Senate and the
House of Representatives meet.   There are 100 Senators, two from each state, and 435 Representatives.
Congress is made up of both the Senate and the House of Representatives.  It is the legislative branch of
the American government.  Congress has the power to make laws and declare war.
Capitol Building:   The capitol
was built between 1793-1810
and is made of white marble.  
Capitol Hill:  The capitol
is on a hill which is
called Capitol Hill.
Capitol at Night:  A full
moon is over the
Capitol.  The white
moon and the white
building make a
beautiful picture.

the dome which is in the center of the capitol
building.  
    Supreme Court of the United States
The Supreme Court is the highest court in the United States.  There are nine justices on the court.  The
most important justice is the Chief Justice .  Justices are nominated by the President and approved by
the Senate with a majority vote.  They serve life terms.  The Supreme Court is the head of the judicial
branch of the American government.  Its job is to interpret and explain the laws.  The current Chief
Justice is John G. Roberts, Jr.

Supreme Court:  Like most government buildings in
Washington, D.C. the Supreme Court is white with
tall columns in front of it.  It was built in 1935.
Top of Supreme Court:  The
words "EQUAL JUSTICE
UNDER LAW" are written above
the courthouse doors.
