Arlington National Cemetery: Arlington Cemetery is in northeastern Virginia. It is located across from Washington, D.C. on the other side of the Potomac River. Over 260,000 people are buried there. Most of them are veterans who died or were injured during a war.

Iwo Jima: During WW II, five Marines and one Navy medic raised an American flag on Mount Suribachi. The battle for Iwo Jima lasted for a month. More than 6,000 Marines and 20,000 Japanese soldiers died during the battle.

World War II Memorial: This memorial was completed in 2004 to honor the 16 million Americans who fought in the Second World War.

Memorial Amphitheater: On Veteran's Day and Memorial Day, services to honor deceased soldiers are held here.

Tomb of the Unknowns: The white marble tomb contains bodies of three unidentifiable soldiers: one from WW I, one from WW II, and one from the Korean War. On one side it says, "Here rests in honored glory an American soldier known but to God."

Korean War Veterans Memorial: This memorial is a park with 19 statues of American soldiers. The Korean War is often called the "forgotten war."

Vietnam War Memorial: This black V-shaped memorial was built in 1982. It contains the names of the 58,000 American soldiers who died in the Vietnam War.
